HISTORY OF RESPONSIBLE DEVELOPMENT
The City of Worthington has enjoyed 60 years with a city charter that has provided excellent opportunities for citizen input and ensuring that the city focuses on responsible development. The Municipal Planning Commission (MPC) and the Architectural Review Board (ARB) provides excellent opportunities for residents to come and learn about proposed development projects and provide their own input. This MPC/ARB process is as much a Worthington tradition as loving our historic character.
On numerous occasions, developers have had to revise their plans based on community input. If there is a zoning change or the approval of a development plan, the plan approved by MCP/ARB is heard by City Council, where citizen input is again heard.
All development proposals are first vetted in front of the MPC and ARB.  It is very normal for development plans to be scaled down (in size and density), exterior building material changes made, landscaping and screening addressed, outdoor lighting adjusted to lessen the impact on neighbors, and many other related issues resolved.  Developers are encouraged to meet with groups such as WARD, OWA and the Historical Society during the development process.
Over the past 24 years, I have a very clear record of approving responsible development in our community. Below are photos of some of the projects I have approved while on Council. As you can see, I have a proven track record for responsible development. And, I promise, I will continue to be as responsible in the future as I have been in my past time on council.
